Almost all keyboards have at least three LEDs, which indicate the current status of Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll. However, over the years I have never really found the LEDs to be useful. Network Lights is a portable utility for Windows, which allows you to utilise the keyboard LEDs for a different purpose.
Network Lights utilises the LEDs as network activity indicators. It allows you to monitor your network’s upload/download activity through the Scroll Lock and Num Lock LEDS. Each LED will flicker when network activity is detected.
To be honest Network Lights doesn’t serve any real purpose. The fact that you can’t judge your network’s speed from the flickering speed severely limits the utility of this application. However, it definitely looks cool (especially in the dark). I don’t know if constant flickering can adversely impact the longevity of the LEDS, but flickering LEDs definitely makes my keyboard look a lot trendier.

Really neat trick.
Replace the useless status lights with a useless network monitor. 😛
I don’t think flickering the LEDs will do them any damage.

LEDs (and all other diodes I can think of) conduct poorly up until a certain turn-on voltage is reached. After that they will take a LOT of current if it is available.
hehe… cool, i wish i had a thing like this for linux too 😀

It’s definitely cool, and makes me wonder of other alternative uses for those lights!
