Piriform has earned a reputation for creating high quality freeware applications. Their first product – Ccleaner, has gone on to become a virtual must have for millions of users. Even Recuva and Defraggler have managed to build a substantial fan base. And now they have unleashed their latest creation – Speccy.
Speccy is a system specification tool. In other words, it gives you detailed information about the hardware that is powering your computer.
Speccy covers all the essential hardware components including CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics cards, hard disks, optical drives and audio devices. The interface is exactly what you would expect from a Piriform product – clean, well organised and unambiguous. The Summary tab provides you a quick overview of various system components including the live temperature of CPU, hard disks and graphics cards. Clicking on any of the components opens their individual tab, which provides in-depth information regarding the component.
Speccy’s biggest strength is its ability to display critical pieces of information in real-time. I already mentioned the various temperature indicators. Speccy also displays data like processor BUS speed and clock speed and RAM frequency in real-time.
Speccy is entering a crowded segment, that already has some excellent free products. While it doesn’t really stand apart from its competition, it does provide a nice simplistic alternative to other system information tools. Since, Speccy is also available as a portable utility, system mechanics should find it a handy tool to carry around for diagnostic purposes.
