In spite of the innumerable ground breaking products from Microsoft, it is not the first name which pops into our mind when someone talks about innovation. And Microsoft knows this. They have been desperately trying to change the perception that Microsoft is a ruthless and old-school monopoly. As a part of this effort, Microsoft (mainly Microsoft Office Labs) has produced some awesome concept videos and demos.
1. Vision 2019
This is probably the most well-known video among the three. It definitely created a ripple around the interwebs when it was released. The thing that makes this video so cool is the fact that none of the technologies demonstrated in the video are impossible. In fact the foundation required to build most the devices demonstrated in the video already exists. Check out the Inside Microsoft’s 2019 Vision video to learn more about the technologies demonstrated in the Vision 2019 video. Although this is the most popular Vision 2019 video, Microsoft Office Labs have actually produced several more videos as a part of their envisioning the future campaign. All of them are worth a watch.
2. Campus of Dreams
This video isn’t produced by Microsoft. It is actually a Reuters report on some of the products being developed by Microsoft Research. Technologies demonstrated include the Whereabouts Clock (a real life version of the Weasely family clock from Harry Potter) and SecondLight (which is just too awesome to be described in words).
3. Microsoft Office Wall
If you thought Vision 2019 was cool, Microsoft Wall is going to blow you away. Sure, it probably won’t come true any time soon. It’s a glimpse of the future which encourages us to imagine the possibilities – and that alone makes it exciting.
Thanks for sharing these videos. They are really very cool.

Yep. The Weasely family clock is the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw that. The only thing missing is the “Mortal Peril” indicator.
Microsoft should have culture like apple to invent some cool stuff.. the culture come from ceo, to its researcher and then to all worker.. with creative culture only.. people can actually invented some amazing stuff.
wonderful videos thanks for sharing…………. Should see what technology will do in another 10years……………… 🙂

Went to check out the third video ‘Microsoft Office Wall”, but it seems that the video has been deleted from youtube 🙁
Till then,

Thanks for bringing this to my notice. I have changed the embed code.
Yup, anytime, glad to see that you were able to fix it rather quickly! When I was watching that video I thought that the technology could really be done earlier than 2019, but then as it got further, the concept where you just put your paper to the wall and it scan’s it totally blew me away for sure! Then being able to take phones and other devices to also capture files from that was also mind blowing. Still though I feel like AI is going to be the hardest thing to do, and could be nearly impossible.
Till then,

That is really cool. I can’t wait till more of this technology is released.
Really Amazing videos….Still expectations from technology is more higher after 10 years…..
These are really neat. It is so interesting to see what the future brings
I think it is really interesting to see how it has progressed from 2009 to 2012.
