I recently started using Picasa for hosting all my photographs online due to the tight integration with Picassa Desktop Client and features like Facial Recognition. But I had hundreds of photos lying around at Zooomr that I wanted to transfer. I needed a tool that would allow me to download all my photos from Zooomr, retain the present tags and upload them to Picasa. This is where Migratr came in.
Migratr is a handy utility that supports a large number of photosharing websites including 23HQ, AOL Pictures, Faces, Flickr, Gallery2, Picasa Web, Phanfare, Photobucket, SmugMug, Zenfolio and Zooomr. Using it dead simple. You need to first select the source and then authenticate (login). Once this is done Migratr will proceed to download all the photographs from the selected service to your harddisk along with the related metadata. After the completion of the download phase you would need to select the destination service and again authenticate. After this Migratr would take care of the entire upload process.
Migratr is a simple application that can be a big time saver. Unfortunately can cause problems on slower internet connections. I use a stable 256 KBPS connection (BSNL Dataone) and found that Migratr encountered an error during downloading several times. The lack of resume facility meant that things got annoying pretty soon. Migratr is a very handy tool that mostly works as advertised. Give it a try if you need to switch to a different photosharing website. It beats the manual way, anyday.
