JavaScripts were first introduced by Netscape in 1995. In the past decade and a half they have evolved into one of the most popular scripting languages and have become an integral part of the web. JavaScripts are fascinating and fantastic. But they can also be agonising and annoying. Used in the wrong way, they can go a long way towards running your surfing experience. For example, nothing annoys me more than a tab suddenly stealing focus. Fortunately for us, both Firefox and Opera include in-built mechanisms to block these nuisance causing scripts.
Disable Annoying JavaScripts in Firefox
Go to Tools –> Options –> Content –> Advanced JavaScript Settings. Disable all the unnecessary effects like raising or lowering of windows, moving or resizing of windows, changing the status bar text and hiding the status bar. You can also prevent websites from disabling or modifying your right click context menu. Some websites do make good use of the context menu (for example Google Docs), so be careful while disabling this option.
Disable Annoying JavaScripts in Opera
Go to Tools –> Preferences –> Advanced –> Content –> JavaScript Options. Once again disable all the effects you do not wish to permit.
That’s it. Small changes can go a long way towards enhancing your web surfing experience. Firefox users can also use the NoScript extension if they want to further limit the execution of JavaScripts. Opera users can use Site Preferences to control execution of JavaScripts on selected pages.
Opera also shows the excellent “disable javascripts on this page” with every JS popup. Can be quite handy at times.
Controle de scripts is a nice alternative for fiefox if noscript gets too overbearing. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1154
Thanks for that. I didn’t know about it.
If you had something to say bout chrome it would have been helpful. I use chrome by Google and I am pretty impressed by it. It is much better compared to other browsers.
I have been using Forefox for 2 years now and didn`t knew about this neat little trick. Thank you for sharing.
Well.. thanks for this explanation.
But I’d like to ask you..
Why javascript is annoying for you? 🙂

Number one in my list would be javascripts which steal focus.
Can these JavaScript be disabled in IE also???
This seems interesting actually, I think I’ll try to disable it and see how different my surfing experience on the internet is! 😀

Thanks for explaining how to do this, I had heard it was possible but couldn’t figure it out.
