Ever since Opera became a freeware, there has been a huge splurge in the number of downloads. More and more people are becoming aware of the fact that a better alternative exists. People are switching to Opera from Internet Explorer as well as Mozilla Firefox. I often see new users of Opera asking questions like “Where can I find more plugins/extensions/addons for Opera?”. Although there are several usefull add-ons/plugins available for opera, unlike with Mozilla Firefox they are spread all over the web and can be difficult to discover. That is what prompted me to cobble together this guide. This guide is broadly divided into 7 sections and lists some of the modifications which I found worthy enough.
Before I start I would advice any new Opera user to go through this excellent Opera 9 FAQ written by Tamil.
Please note that this guide is intended for Opera v9.0 or newer versions running on Windows.
A ) MENU EDITING
In this section I shall discuss various useful modifications that you can make to Opera’s menu file.
But before I start you will need to know a few basic things.
First you need to know where your profile directory is present.To find this click on Help –> About Menu. Note the directory.
1. Now from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars select Duplicate menu.
2.Go to your profile\menu directory. There, you would find the menu file. When ever I say open the menu file you need to open this file. This file can be opened with text editor like Notepad.
1. BBCode
This modification will allow you to quickly insert BBCode while typing out new posts/replies in a forum.
The manual way :
1..Open the menu file. Find the [Edit Widget Popup Menu] section.
Then add the following line
Submenu, “BB Code”, BBcode Menu
2. Then scroll down to the bottom of the document and copy-paste this code .
3. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isnt working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.
[ Note : If you want to add more colours to the menu you can find a list of colours and their codes over here . ]
If you want, you can add HTML codes also in a similar manner. First create a submenu for html by adding the following line to the [Edit Widget Popup Menu] section of the menu file.
Submenu, “HTML Menu”, HTML Menu
Then scroll down to the bottom of the document and add [link removed: this tutorial is no longer valid] code. The shortcut :
If you don’t want to go through all this hassle just download this menu file and use it.

2. Open images with Irfan View
IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative freeware graphic viewer. You can download it from http://www.irfanview.com/
1. Open the menu file.
2. Find [Image Popup Menu] section
Anywhere inside that section add the line
Item, “Open image in Irfan View” = Copy image & Execute program, “C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe”, “/clippaste”
3. Find [Image Link Popup Menu] section
If it does not exist create it.
4. Add the following lines
Item, 67651= Open image
Item, “Open image in Irfan View” = Copy image & Execute program, “C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe”, “/clippaste”
5. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isnt working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.

3. Copy Text to Notepad
Since Notepad doesn’t support the /clippaste parameter directly copying the selected text into notepad is not possible.
However myOpera forum member MarcFou had found an alternate way using vbscript. I have not tested his method but it is available over here
A 3rd party alternative of Notepad, known as Notepad2 supports this feature.You can download Notepad2 from here .For Notepad2
1. Open the menu file.
2. Find [Hotclick Popup Menu] section
And add the following line
Item, “Edit with Notepad2″=Copy,,,,”Notepad” & Execute Program, “c:\Program Files\Notepad2\notepad2.exe”,”/c”, “Notepad”
Make sure that the path mentioned is correct.
3. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isn’t working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.
4. View Webpages in IE and Firefox
1. Open the menu file.
2. Find [Document Popup Menu]
3. Add the lines
Item, “View in IE”= Execute program, “iexplore”,”%u”
Item, “View in Firefox”= Execute program, “firefox.exe”,”%u”
4. Find [Link Popup Menu] and repeat step 3.
5. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isn’t working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.
5. Bug me not
BugMeNot.com was allows you to quickly bypass the login of web sites that require compulsory registration and/or the collection of personal/demographic information (such as the New York Times). It is a database of usersubmitted login details for popular websites.
You can have directly look up username and password of the site you are browsing in Bugmenot . To achieve this
If you want to add the Bugmenot option then
1. Open the menu file.
2. Locate the [Document Popup Menu]
3. Add the following line
Item, “BugMeNot”= Go to page, “http://bugmenot.com/view.php?&url=%u”
4. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isn’t working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.
Note: There is a userjs available for Bugmenot. I prefer userjs instead of this method.
6. Tiny url
Adding this option to the context menu will allow you create a tinyurl for the website you are vieweing. The method is identical to adding bugmenot.
1. Open the menu file.
2. Locate the [Document Popup Menu]
3. Add the following line
Item, “Create TinyURL”= Go to page, “http://tinyurl.com/create.php?url=%u”
4. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isn’t working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.
7. Snipurl
Snipurl is a similar service. Here is how to snip a url directly from your context meny .
1. Open the menu file.
2. Locate the [Document Popup Menu]
3. Add the following line
Item, “SnipURL”= Go to page, “http://snipurl.com/q.do?link=%u”
4. Save the file and use it with Opera. If it isn’t working then from Tools ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Toolbars make sure that this edited menu file is selected.

8. Integrate del.icio.us commands
1. Open the menu file.
2. Locate the [Document Popup Menu]
3. Add the following line

B ) INTEGRATING OPERA WITH DOWNLOAD MANAGERS
This is one of the most frequently asked questions about Opera.
A lot of download managers still do not inherently support Opera. However luckily there are a few Download managers which integrates with Opera without any hassle.
I would recomend Internet Download Manager ( Screenshot ) .It integrates with Opera by default. Also it handles downloads from file sharing services like Rapidshare very well.
Meta Products Download Express from Metaproducts is a Freeware which partially integrates with Opera via the context menu.
Developers of most download managers chose to ignore Opera. There are some like Flashget which hasn’t updated their plugin for Opera, for ages ( the plugin is meant to integrate with Opera v6 ). As a result you actually have to do a fair bit of tweaking to get the plugin working with Opera.
1. Integrating Flashget with Opera
If you are using Flashget from Amazesoft then you need to download an addon. You can download it from here .This addon was meant for Opera v6. Since then, Opera has undergone several changes.
By default Flashget tries to install the plugin at Opera\Plugins directory. However, Opera has shifted the location of its Plugins directory. So during installation, make sure that you change the target from Opera\Plugins to Opera\program\plugins .
Now you have to open Opera and manually integrate Flashget with the desired extensions. For eg. If you want to integrate it with .zip files you will have to carry out the following steps.
1. Click on Tools->Pref–>Advanced—>Downloads
2. Uncheck “Hide filetypes opened with Opera” .
3. Now search for extension type .zip
4. Select that entry and Click on Edit.
5. Change Action to Use Plugin (Flashget Click Catcher ).
You have to repeat these steps for all the extensions you want to integrate with Opera.
2. Integrating generic download manager with Opera
If you are using some other download manager you may try the Generic method mentioned but I can not guarantee that it would work.
1. Click on Tools->Pref–>Advanced—>Downloads
2. Uncheck “Hide filetypes opened with Opera”
3. Now search for extension type .zip
4. Select that entry and Click on Edit.
5. Select the option Open with other application and point to your download manager’s execution file ( .exe)
6. Check the option to pass on the url to application.
Click ok and repeat the same for all extensions want to associate with the download manager.
3. Download all links present in a webpage ( Operaget )
myOpera forum member bluej has made an excellent plugin that automatically scans a webpage and sends all download links present in the webpage to the download manager. Currently supported download managers are
Net Transport, Flashget, FDM, ReGet, HiDownload, Mass Downloader, NetAnts, Net Transport and GetRight.

C) USER JAVASCRIPT (Userjs)
The basic concept opera userjs has been explained very nicely by Rijk. You can view it here . Quoting him
User JavaScript is a powerful tool to make websites behave like you want! A userscript is basically a script from a local file that gets executed before any other scripts (or event handlers) on the page, once in every document. With userscripts, you can change layout, elements, behavior, almost anything.

Installing userjs is also very simple. The main steps involved are
1. You need to make a separate directory for storing all your userjs files. It may be anywhere on your PC.
2. Then go to Tools –> Preferences –> Advanced –> Content –> JavaScript Options.
3. Fill in the location of your userjs directory in the My Java script files box.
4. Now exit Opera and go to the /profile directory and open the opera6.ini file with Notepad
5. Find the [User Prefs] section
6. Add the line Always Load User JavaScript=1 .
7. Save the file and exit.
Now all you need to do is to download and save the userjs files to your userjs directory.

I highly recommend four userjs listed at the above two places
1. Bug me not : This script allows the user to search BugMeNot.com service for accounts to bypass compulsory authentification on the site he/she is viewing. To use the script just press Ctrl+Shift+Double Click.

2. Google Suggest in Opera : It makes it possible to use google suggest in Opera while using www.google.com
3. Zoom Image : This script allows you to zoom individual images using an image toolbar appearing whenever you hold your mouse over an image.
4. Link alert : This script identifies links to specific file types, and displays an appropriate icon when the link is hovered.
I am listing a few userjs which isn’t available at the above mentioned places.
5. Flash Panel for Opera : This modification would add a DHTML floating panel to any page which contains flash files. It allows the user quickly to open / save the flash-movies which are contained by active page. Also panel allows to hide/show flash on page.
.Installing it is very simple, just make sure that you extract the vfpO8.js file to your userjs directory.
6. Google Redux : Google Redux is a simple userjavascript that redesigns Google’s home page and allows you to add custom links and searches. If you generally do not use the search bar for searching in Google then you may want to give this a try.
A similar userjs is Kamambe .
7. Ajax for Yahoo mail : I had blogged earlier about this userjs
This is for those of you who still does not have acces to the new yahoo mail interface. It changes the current yahoo mail interface to a more nifty Ajax based one. A new version was released on March 21. More details is available here

8. Ultimate HighlightJS : This is a fantastic script made by myOpera forum member Luchio. This advanced User Javascript allows you to highlight multiple keywords on any webpage. Its most useful feature is that it automatically keywords if page is selected from Google results. It also shows detailed search results in a floating box, which allows you to jump from one result to the next.

9. Multipopup UserJS : It’s an all-in-one tooltip Replacement With Customizable Styles. For online demo and installation instructions check out the official website.
10. Pagerank UserJS : This page shows the PR of the page you are browsing at the bottom of the screen in a horizontal bar. There are two versions of this script ( made by Shoust ). Choose the one which suits you.
11. Googlepedia ( by scipio ) : This script does what Googlepedia extension does for Firefox . It shows you a relevant Wikipedia article along with your search results.

D) BUTTONS
How to add Buttons : Adding buttons is as simple as drag and drop. Simply drag and drop the link to the buttons on your toolbar.

Drives : Opens Opera’s file browser. It allows you to browse through the contents of your drives.
Display : Allows you to switch to Medium Screen Rendering Mode (i.e. fits webpages to window width), with a single click. If you Press the button and hold, the mages and style menu appears.
Speak : Opera will read aloud anything that you type or paste in this box.
Proxy On/Off : Allows you to enable/disable proxy with a single click.
Controll Windows Media Player from Opera : Allows you to open and play/pause/stop a mp3 file. However the functionality is very limited.
Google Page Rank Button : This button created by Andrew Gregory allows you to check out the PR of a website quickly.
Snipurl : A button that will quickly allow you to snip url’s. ( Credit : Steve )
More Buttons : There are tons of more Buttons available over here .
Many of the buttons listed on the above mentioned site allows you to quickly launch 3rd party softwares. However, before adding these buttons make sure that the path of the software mentioned in the button is valid.

E) PANELS
Panels (or Sidebars in Firefox ) can be simply described as a small tab. Opera’s official page on webpanels says :
Panels are a great way to keep on top of the latest news or happenings on your favorite Web sites.
A brief guide to installing panels : Adding webpanels is very simple.
1. Before starting I suggest that you create a new Bookmark folder called Panels (this isn’t necessary however helps in keeping things organized ). I would advice you to save all panels within this folder.
2. Now open the webpanel in a your browsers tab. Press Ctrl + D and add it as a bookmark. While saving the bookmark make sure that the “Show in Panel” option is ticked.

3. That’s it! Now the panel will appear in your opera sidebar. Just click on the icon to open that panel.
A part from providing fast access to your favorite news sites panels can be used for a variety of other purposes. But, before I move ahead to describe a few of my favorite panels
1. Digg.com Sidebar : Provides fast access to various digg.com options.
2. Spurl (stumbleupon for Opera ) : Stumbleupon is my favorite extension for Firefox. Unfortunately it works only with Firefox. However you can add similar functionality to Opera using another social bookmarking site known as Spurl.

3. WMP Panel : This panel allows you to control Windows Media Player from your Opera window. If you have the neptune plugin installed you can view local files and folders also (Note: Installing Neptune plugin is not recommended). This plugin was created by shoust. .
4. Calendar Panel : The functionality of the panel is obvious from the name.There are two versions available. One is made by Shoust and the other one by Frans de Jonge . Check out both of them.
5. Games Panel :
a ) Tetris and Minesweeper : This panel created by Andrew Gregory, allows you to play Tetris and Minesweeper.
b) Snakes : Another arcade game to kill time.
6. Imageshack : Allows you to quickupload images to imageshack.
7. ICQ2Go : Webpanel which allows you to chat with your friends through ICQ.
8. Opera Cache Viewer : This panel allows you to browse through your opera cache.

9. Google Sidebar : Gives you quick access to Google search, Image search, directory search and Google groups search.
10. National Geographic’s Photo of the Day : Provides you quick access to National Geographic’s Photo of the day (wallpaper).
11. Weather Pixie : To create your own weather pixie sidebar go to weatherpixie.com , fill in the desired parameters and press “Set my Pixie” button. Now click on the “View the HTML code for this location” link .
Note down the link inside the img tag. All you need to do is to save that link as a bookmark and add it to your panels.
12. Time Zone Converter : Find the current time in more than 1,000 cities around the world, and convert the time between hundreds of cities.
13. Mouse Gestures : This panel is for those of you who have a bad memory ( like me ). This panel contains a list of Mousegestures available in Opera. This panel was created by Tarquin .

F ) WIDGETS
This is one of the new features that was introduced in Opera v9 TP2 . Widgets are small Web applications that live outside the Opera window and can perform some very nifty fucntions. You can switch to Widgets mode by pressing F6 . You can find more details about widgets over here . There are a lot of cool widgets being made every week. You can find them at the Opera Widgets Gallery and Opera Widgets Blog .
G) MISC
1. View PDF files within an Opera tab.
By default Opera saves PDF files instead of opening them in the browser window. I prefer things this way but incase you want to have it like other browsers, here is how to do it.
1. Browse to \Reader\Browser and locate the file “nppdf32.dll” .
2. Copy this file to Opera’s Plug-ins directory.
3. Go to Tools->Pref–>Advanced—>Downloads . Uncheck “hide filetypes….”
4. Find the locate the extension pdf and click on edit.
5. Make sure that the “Use plugin” option is enabled and “Adobe Acrobat” plugin is selected.
2. Integrated IM solution
KryptoTheSuperdog an myOpera forum member suggested a method to integrate GAIM with Opera.

3. Integrate Foobar controlls in Opera
This trick was suggested by porneL from myOpera forums. If you are interested here is it but again I haven’t tested it.
4. Use IE rendering engine with Opera
Click here to learn how to use Ie rendering engine with Opera. This method was suggested by Sting.
* Note : This method involves the installation of ActiveX support for Opera which may posses huge security vulnerabilities. Install this only if you know what you are doing. And again I haven’t tested this method.
5. Opera Backup
It backs up Important settings in Opera Browser, suchas email, profiles, notes,contact,plugins.

6. Blocking ads in Opera
In v9 TP2 Opera included a a new tool called Content blocker. It allows you to block unwanted content from appearing. This tool can be used as an adblocker. To block content right click anywhere on the page and click on “Block Content” from the context meny. Now click on the content you want to block. Press on the ” Done ” button where you are finished.
An excellent content blocker filter is available over here . You can either add the entries to the profiles/urlfilter.ini file or replace it.
There are many other ways to block ads in Opera. They are listed here and here .
7. OBook plugin
This plugin attempts to emulate the functionality of the firefox extension ScrapBook . It allows you a save an offline version of any webpage. However, this plugin is still in beta. There are some limitations to this plugin eg. the OBook integrator needs to run in the background for this plugin to work.
Installation is very straight forward and simple. I suggest that you add the OBook Integrator to your Startup list. You can now save a page either from Context menu or from the File menu.

8. Sticky Notes for Opera
Sticky notes allows users to add small notes in webpages. When you come back to the same page you’ll find the note.
There are two versions for this addon.
The first version is made by Antonio Orlando and is available at http://digilander.libero.it/odnalro/coding/sticky_notes/
The second one is made by Robodesign and is available at http://www.robodesign.ro/opera/userjs/stickies/ .I would recommend the second one. You can try it over here .
9. oSync
This is a very nice tool made by myOpera forum member minisu . It is an Opera profile synchronization and bookmark publisher. Its functionality is somewhat similar to Google Browser Sync for Firefox. However to use it you must have a myOpera.com account.
Features :
Synchronizing any profile files through my.opera.com.
Compression, request caching, checksum and encryption support.
File filters prevents synchronization of trivial changes.
Very efficient network usage.
Backups replaced local files.

10. Portable Opera – Run Opera from a USB drive
Portable Opera is a fully functional package of Opera optimized for use on a USB key drive. This project is maintained by Markus Obermair. Currently Portable Opera is available in 11 languages. You can always get the latest version of Portable Opera from http://www.opera-usb.com/ .
11. G!Chat in Opera
Recently, Google introduced G!Chat for gmail users. However, by default Google chat doesn’t work with opera. That is not because Opera doesn’t support it, but because Gmail is sniffing out opera. The simple solution to this problem is to fake your user id for gmail.
i) Open gmail from the url you use ( I use mail.google.com to access gmail).
ii) Right click anywhere on the page and click on the “Edit Site Preferences” from the context menu. Under Network tab, change identification option to Mask as Mozilla. Now click on ok and refresh the page to start using google chat from gmail.
12. File browser in Opera
Opera comes build in with a basic file browser. To access it type opera:drives in the address bar.
13. Disable Integration of Opera with Torrent files
Opera comes inbuilt with torrent downloading capabilities. However, Opera’s download manager is very basic and may to satisfy most people. However, it is very easy to prevent Opera from handling torrent files
i) Type opera:config in the address bar.
ii) Click on the “BitTorrent” settings. Now all you need to do is to uncheck the box next to “Enable” and press the “Save” button.
14. Opera Password Recovery [Shareware]
With this program you can:
– Recover all types of Opera saved passwords;
– Decrypt passwords protected with Master Password;
– Choose between two (automatic and manual) recovery modes;
– Export passwords to text, html or excel files.
15 . Enabling Google’s I’m feeling lucky search after failed url attempt
Yet another great tip by shoust. This is emulate Firefox’s behavior when no proper subdomain is entered. For eg. if you type ‘bush’ you will be led to the Wikipedia page about George W. Bush and of course typing pallab will bring you here .
16. Preventing the Transfers Window from Popping up when Saving Images
Just Press Ctrl and click on the image. However, this wont work if the image is hyperlinked. This behaviour has been fixed in the v9.01 weeklies.
17. OXPORT – Opera Bookmarks and Contacts Converter
It’s a bookmarks and contacts converter which converts Opera’s bookmarks and contacts to files that can be imported in IE and WAB (Internet Explorer and WindowsAddressbook) which are widely supported. Grab it from here .
18. NoScript for Opera
– Disable Annoying Js Functionalities : Tools->Preferences–>Content—>JavaScript Options. Uncheck “Allow resizing/moving/raising/lowering of windows”. You can also uncheck “Allow scripts to receive Right Clicks if you want”. This will get rid of some of the annoying Js functionalities.
– Disable Js on a certain website : Right click on a blank spot in that website, click on Edit Site Preferences from the context menu. Under scripting settings uncheck JavaScript option.
– Enable Js only in certain site – I wont recommend this. But if you are a security paranoid then well, best of luck. Surfing the web can become really frustrating with this setting. Go to Tools->Preferences–>Content. Uncheck the Enable JavaScript option. Now on any site you want to enable JavaScript option you will have to use Site Preference to enable it for that site.>19. Web Developer Toolbar & Menu
The web developer toolbar is a menu and toolbar setup for Opera which brings together functions related to web development, validation services and links to standards and other documentation. You can download it from here ( Screenshot ).
20. Writer’s AI – Run Opera from CD Rom
Writer’s AI Opera, is a customization of Opera which can be run directly from a CD Rom, without any installation.
21. Saving Screenshot of Webpages
You will need a 3rd party software known as FastStone Capture . This software allows you to take screenshot of full webpages. You need to use the “Capture Scrolling Window” option (shortcut key is Ctrl+Alt+PrtScn). However, this software can only account for vertical scrolling and not horizontal scrolling.
22. Access Hotmail using M2
Neeraj Deshmukh has explained in detail in his blog, how to configure Mr. Postman so that it can fetch your emails from Hotmail inbox, for Opera. You can find his guide over here .

I mentioned it in my guide. You first need to create that file.I will repeat it for you :

FIrefox has cool little install button and ur done, u don t have to modify manually so many files, so many text lines…that s more for linux users
Well can an install button make a heavily customized toolbar setup? or a heavily customized menu setup or similar? Well with Opera you can have your own set of customized toolbars and switch between the toolbar setups when you want. If for a browser all it is, is install buttons then it goes to show the users of FF are quite lazy in terms of getting their browser exactly how they want it.

I suspect it’s very hard to find as I’ve not submitted it to any archive, because it has rather tricky setup steps and a companion css file needed.
You’re right in recommending Robodesign’s one, but mine has more parameters and sometimes they are useful, so I’d like someone to go across the code and merge the css stuff into the javascript, so it will become a proper userJS. So if someone good in javascript is reading, please contact me and I’ll explain the details 🙂

Firstly, you should upgrade to Opera v9.20
Next, are you by any chance masking as Internet Explorer? Open mail.google.com. Rightclick on an empty spot and click on “Edit Site Preference Option” present in the context menu. Under Network tab, set browser identification to Opera. Close the tab and open mail.google.com once again.
This should solve the problem. If you still have a problem you can try choosing “Mask as Firefox”. However, I dont think that should be required. Just upgrade to latest version of Opera and identify as Opera. Gmail works fine here.
To fix other Google services like Google Docs use the userjs I mentioned here.

I do not have an Indiatimes account. So, I couldn’t check it out myself.
From your description it looks like the website uses ActiveX control. This is not supported only by Internet Explorer. There is a plugin called Nepture that attempts to add activex support to browsers like Opera and Firefox. However, ActiveX is a security risk and I wouldn’t recommend installing it. If you still want to go ahead check out this article from Opera knowledge base.
But, before doing that open the page in Firefox and check if it is working. Often websites have an alternate non activex interface, but they dont provide it to Opera. If it does work in Firefox simply masking as Firefox using Site Preferences should do the trick.

Sorry if this isn’t the correct place to post this but I have a question. How can I copy and paste from Opera without loosing all the HTML formatting? Not being able to do this is the only thing I don’t like about Opera. If there’s a way to do this then I’ll never use IE or Firefox again!
Unfortunately out of the box Opera only allows plain text copy. Its unfortunate but Opera Soft decided to remove rich text copy apparently due to security reasons (!!!). I found a slightly complicated way to achieve your objective. Check this post by Lex1 in myopera forums.
First you need to download and extract txt2clip.exe to a local folder.
Then go to Tools–>Preferences–>Advanced–>Downloads
Click on the “Add” button. Enter “text/cwf” (without quotes) in the MIME type box and select “Open with other Application”. Point to the location of txt2clip.exe
Next you need to open your menu.ini file (you can find information about creating and editing menu.ini file in the main article).
Add this under [Hotclick Popup Menu] section
Platform Windows, Item, "Copy text with formatting"="Copy & Go to Page, "javascript:(function(){var html_selection=document.Now when you need to select text with rich text formatting select the “Copy text with formatting” option from rightclick context menu.
However, I havent yet tested this solution.

To use Middle Mouse Button to open new links, go to Tools–>Pref–>Advanced–>Shortcuts. There you would find middle click options.
Generally when you use middle click for the first time you are prompted to make a choice.
And I couldnt understand what you meant buy autoscroll feature.
thanks for that middle click option…well by auto scroll i mean to say that when ever i pressed the wheel for a few seconda a pointer with 4 points used to appear and then i could vertically and horizontally scroll through the pages by moving the mouse instead of moving the wheel..

I can autoscroll in v9.2. You need to click on an empty spot on the page. Also, make sure that you have proper drivers installed.
If it doesnt work after that try deleting the mouse gesture settings file. (Tools–>Pref–>Advanced–>Shortcuts). Restart Opera.

I have an Microsoft Intellipoint mouse. It works perfectly. Other than driver problems and screwed up gesture settings I cant think of anything else that may cause this. You should try the myOpera forums.

I started lookin for alternative to IE and found Firefox and Opera came highly recommended ( like opera for its tab viewing, cool,) and in 5 hrs have seen what I been missin out on.
Now as with all peeps here I got a query too ( sadly), with Firefox I have been able to intergrate flaget (they specifically made flashGOT for FF) but with opera I failed, I got the plugin still didnt work, tried installing generic method of installation also, but failed. Maybe i havent figuared out how to download with flasgget with Opera so any help for a Opera newbie?? Thanks ever so much.

Please if anyone comes up with a way to use google bookmarks in Opera let me know. I just finally (after ten years) started using bookmarks in firefox and ie with the google toolbar. Constant formats and system changes and the hassel of exporting regular bookmarks have been a waste of time for me, so my research has suffered. I was thrilled to get the chance to save externally and now I’ve discovered opera I want to use google bookmarks with it. It’s easy to install google toolbar when you are on the road at a public computer and want to get to your links. I have access to the ones I’ve already saved on my igoogle page from opera, is there a way to drag bookmarks there from opera yet?

Opera can import firefox and internet explorer bookmarks. So, if you can get google bookmarks to output for those two browsers it would also work in Opera.
Give this solution by Ayush a try.
Or try this solution. According to that you would need to install google toolbar for fx/ie in order to output bookmarks.

My issue is with creating more bookmarks FROM Opera.

I’ll look into creating an accout so I can try exporting from Opera into google bookmarks. This still leaves me with the manual task of saving my book marks but at least I’ll still be able to use Opera AND have the ability to access bookmarks on the road. (I hope)
You can use this bookmarklet to quickly add links to google bookmarks.

hi., i’m using the latest Opera 9.6 on Vista HOme Premium and I can’t get any of the tweaks working. Help!
I just deleted the Opera 9 browser. I enjoyed using it, but one thing that aggravated me was the way it automatically changed the icons on my files to its own Opera icon. Is there a way of changing this to the icon I prefer, or is it their way of advertising their product? I like most of this browser’s features except for this minor detail.

It is not Opera’s way of advertising. You must have set Opera has the default browser. It asks during the installation procedure as well as on first run, if you want it to be the default browser. All browsers give you the option of setting it as the default browser during installation.
The solution to this problem is to set your initial browser as default again (for Ie you can to the same from Internet Connection options).

Not exactly sure what went wrong in your case. Are you using the final build of Opera 10.5? Did you try doing a clean installations (backup neccesary data, uninstall Opera and delete Opera’s profile folder)? Are you using UserJS, UserCSS etc? That can create problems with Opera 10.50 final build. Try disabling them or install a newer build.
If the problem still persists try the latest Opera release (at the moment it is Opera 10.51 RC3).
Ignore my previous comment. Here is how to fix the issue:
Click on the O menu – Settings – Preferences.
Click the Advanced Tab.
Select Cookies – Manage Cookies.
Search for any “Facebook” cookie(s) and delete them.
Load http://www.facebook.com and log in.
Success! You should now be logged in as normal.

This article was written for Opera 9. Most of the stuff mentioned won’t work directly in Opera 10.x.
What you are trying to achieve is now built right into Opera. Just right click on an empty spot in a page and select Open With–>Browser from the context menu.

im using opera Version 10.63 Build 3516 .. and Internet download manger {IDM} version 5.18 .. IDM takes over my downloads in opera but it directly opens up the download window and doesnt let video’s on facebook or youtube buffer unlike it does on mozilla .. in mozila it opens up a panel saying ‘ download with IDM ‘ on top right hand side of any video that plays in the browser .. in opera im not able to see that … pl help !!!
I don’t think that there is any direct way to solve this problem. What you can do is remove mp4 and flv files from the list of file extensions IDM monitors. Then use either of the extensions I have linked below to selectively download YT videos you wish to download.
