Adobe Photoshop is (in)famous for its significant load times. In fact it is so bad that Photoshop load times are often used as a benchmark for hard-disk performance by various tech enthusiasts. Photoshop is a behemoth with thousands of features, hundreds of built in presets and filters. These filters and presets needs to be loaded every time you launch Photoshop and is a significant contributor to Photoshop’s load time. However, not everyone uses every feature provided by Photoshop. In fact most users don’t use a majority of the advanced filters and tools offered by Photoshop.
Photoshop is a freeware which allows you to disable various filters, presets, plugins and fonts. Not only does this significantly improve Photoshop’s load times, but it also reduces Photoshop’s memory footprint. Photoshop Speedup was recently updated and works with Adobe Photoshop 3-CS 4 and will run on almost any build of Windows. Photoshop Speedup has to be among the ugliest software I have ever used, but I can’t complain about anything else. It’s completely safe (you can always restore default settings), requires no installation and really works.
