Note: For fresh working links of new Antivirus products check out Six Premium Antivirus Software for Free – II
Antivirus vendors are on a roll. Everyone seems to be giving away free extended trial licenses. Here are six premium antivirus softwares you can get for free.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 : Kaspersky’s products are one of the highest rated security products around.
It had the fourth highest detection rate (after Trustport, Avira Antivir and AVK – Trustport and AVK are not recomended because they use multiple engines and are extremely heavy on the system and slow). KAV also won the gold award in anti-malware-test.com’s polymorphic virus test and self-protection test. However KAV’s performances in av-comparative.org’s retrospective test (May 08) and av-test.org’s Match shootout were mediocre. Kaspersky Antivirus and Internet Security are also the most feature packed security softwares around. One of it’s best feature is Rollback which allows you to restore your computer to a state before an virus infection was detected. It’s also the best looking security software out in the market.

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium : Avira Antivir is made by German antivirus company GmbH. These guys are seriously experienced. The Avira engine was first launched in 1988. Avira has been doing well constantly in Antivirus shootouts published by the two most reputed AV comparison websites – av-test.org and av-comparatives.org. It was one of the top performers in av-test.org’s March shootout. It was the second best in av-comparative’s on demand scan results (Feb 08) and the best in av-comparatives retroactive test (May 08). Anti-malware-test.com found it to be the best in detection of polymorphic viruses.
I use Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Premium for my laptop as in the hostile environment of my college cybercafe and hostel detection rate matters, and in that aspect Avira Antivir PE is definitely the best. However, Avira does have a few shortcomings. It comes in a no frills basic package which doesn’t offer many of the features present in other softwares like Kaspersky. It’s interface is not the best and it failed the Anti-malware-test.com’s self protection test. But even then, Avira Antivir is an option to seriously consider.
Grab your Avira Antivir PE Premium 6 months license from here.
Although I very strongly recommend that you use either Avira Antivir PE Premium or Kaspersky here are some more antivirus software’s offering free trial keys :
F-Secure Internet Security : F-Secure uses a modified version of Kaspersky engine and hence has a very good detection rate. It was rated Gold in the polymorphic virus detection test and silver in self protection test by anti-malware-test.com. It performed well in av-test.org’s comparisons also. You can get your 3 months trial license from here.
