Most antivirus vendors allow their users to download database updates separately so that they can be deployed on systems lacking an internet connection. However, Kaspersky stopped providing offline updates a couple of years back. This is a major inconvenience to users who don’t have high-speed internet connection and rely on friends and family members. Fortunately, Kaspersky still supports a couple of alternate ways to download and distribute Kaspersky database updates offline.
This guide applies to most Kaspersky products including (but not limited to) Kaspersky Antivirus 2009/2010, Kaspersky Internet Security 2009/2010 and Kaspersky PURE
Download Kaspersky Offline Updates
You will need to use a tool called Kaspersky Universal Updater for downloading Kaspersky Offline Updates. This tool is capable of creating a copy of Kaspersky’s update server on your local storage (hard-disk). If you don’t wish to download everything present in Kaspersky’s server, you can specify your product and version number. This information can be obtained by right clicking on Kaspersky’s system tray icon and selecting About from the context menu. Kaspersky Universal Updater supports pretty much every Kaspersky product out there including UNIX builds. You can even schedule it to automatically download updates to the specified folder. Kaspersky Universal Updater can be downloaded from the official Kaspersky Labs website.
There is another alternative technique supported by most Kaspersky products, which may come in handy if you have an internet connection and simply want to distribute AV updates to your friends and family members. Once again, right click on Kaspersky’s system tray icon. This time around, select Settings from the context menu. Go to My Update Center and enable the option to Copy updates to folder. You can use Browse to select the folder where you want to store your offline database. Enabling this option instructs Kaspersky to save the files downloaded by Kaspersky Update module into the specified folder.
Deploying Kaspersky Updates
Now that you have a copy of the offline updates database, copy it via USB memory device (or any other technique) to the target system. Open Kaspersky’s Settings dialogue box and browse to My Update Center. Click on Update Source Settings. Click on Add and select the folder where your offline update database is stored. If the target machine doesn’t have internet connection, you can uncheck the default entry (Kaspersky Lab’s update servers). Otherwise, just increase the priority (Move Up) of the local database.
That’s it. You are all set. All you need to do now is to run the Update module run the Update module(from the Update Center or through the system tray icon’s context menu), and you would have a fully updated database of Kaspersky.

I guess they did this to prevent piracy, or to at least put a stop to it but at least, there is still a way to do it, just more annoying for us though, lol.
